True Crime Podcasts

Whaddup nerds.
Fun fact: True crime is my thaang. I read it, watch it and more recently listen to it. Podcasts aren't new to me (you can check out my 2016 favourites here) but crime podcasts are a new discovery - much to the joy of my boyfriend who thinks I'm a total weirdo for listening to gruesome crimes while taking a bubble bath. One time he even asked me to turn it down as he thought our neighbours might think he was attacking me...

The majority of these podcasts are unfunded and obviously need listener support to keep them going, please make sure you show your support if you love a podcast and like with all true crime, listener discretion is advised.

Untold: The Daniel Morgan Murder
This was the first true crime podcast that I listened to. It follows the story of Daniel Morgan, a private investigator who was murdered in 1987. The story moves through the streets of London, through to the highest echelons of Scotland Yard, to the offices of Rupert Murdoch's best selling newspaper. Think bent cops and dark arts and you've got one hell of an interesting podcast. This case has had five failed police investigations and has become the most investigated murder in the UK. The podcast slogan sums it up - if you haven't heard this story, ask yourself, why?
Up and Vanished
Similar to the Daniel Morgan murder, this podcast takes an investigative approach to the unsolved disappearance of Georgia beauty queen, Tara Grinstead. Follow the host, Payne Lindsey, as he examines old case evidence and takes a look at persons of interest in this 11 year old cold case. This is a great podcast if you enjoy following real time true crime.
Sword and Scale
If you like true-crime stories, high-profile trials, unsolved murders and missing persons cases - then sword and scale is one for you. This podcast covers some pretty disturbing cases proving that the worst monsters are very real. Sword and Scale delivers a fascinating insight into the demented minds of some of the worlds most despicable criminals.
The Generation Why Podcast
Another one case per episode podcast; Generation Why is hosted by a couple of guys who discuss unsolved murders, controversies, mysteries and conspiracies. Aaron and Justin have a great approach to discussing these fascinating true crimes; you feel like you're sat with a couple of friends, drinking some beers and chatting some chit-chat. Overall a great podcast with a huge range of cases for you to listen to.
Casefile True Crime

Similar to both Sword and Scale and Generation Why - Casefile looks at individual cases from the terrifying, the strange and the unsolved. The host is a lovely Australian chap (I imagine a rugged surfer) and it's unique in that it covers a wider range of cases which are unheard of, many of which took place in Australia. Casefile has covered some of the most intriguing cases I've heard yet and is a great all round podcast for crime lovers.

This list is certainly not definitive. There are hundreds of podcasts covering true crime but these are definitely my favourites. The lovely Jasmin Charlotte has some awesome posts here and here discussing many more true crime podcasts that I haven't mentioned so make sure to check those out!
